Piers Morgan aghast after guest brands Winston Churchill a 'war criminal' in furious row

Winston Churchill was branded a war criminal by a guest on Piers Morgan’s TV show last night.

A furious row erupted between the guests on the Talk TV panel where panellist Mohammed Hijab – a Muslim philosopher and scholar – and American Rabbi Shmuley debated one of Britain’s most revered men.

Mr Hijab left both Mr Morgan and Rabbi Shumley aghast as he doubled down on his controversial opinion on the former Prime Minister credited with leading the defeat of the evil Nazis who killed 12 million in World War 2.

Talking on the Talk TV show, Piers Morgan Uncensored, Mr Hijab said: “Churchill was wrong. Yes, he was. Yes, he was. Churchill was a war criminal.”

Mr Morgan clarified the comment saying: “You think Winston Churchill was a war criminal?

“In standing up to the Nazis who killed 12 million people – that by doing what he did was a war criminal.”

The panel then went on to debate the current events in Gaza in relation to the civilian deaths and the Isreal-Hamas war with Morgan saying “your belief is no retaliatory action” to Mr Hijab. Mr Hijab replied “retaliate to the man, not the babies”.

Mr Morgan added that Mr Hijab didn’t know his facts saying “you don’t actually know what you’re talking about”.

Rabbi Shmuley, however, was clear in his total admiration of Churchill.

He said: “Let me be clear. Winston Churchill was the greatest statesman of the 20th Century.

“He saved the world from Nazi terror.

“That you could live in a country that is only around today because of the bravery of that man showing no gratitude…”

Calls for a ceasefire in Gaza are now mounting as the civilian death count rises.

On Wednesday Sir Keir Starmer was hit by the biggest rebellion of his leadership over a crunch Commons vote on the ceasefire.

Eight shadow ministers defied the Labour leader to back an SNP amendment to the King’s Speech demanding a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Meanwhile President Joe Biden said Hamas committed a “war crime” by operating under a Gaza hospital during a press conference.

Speaking after his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in California earlier on Wednesday, Biden confirmed that Hamas’ “headquarters, their military” are under a hospital.
