But even if they decided to remain at their main residence in Windsor over the next week, Adelaide Cottage would provide the perfect backdrop for their sunny break.
Kate and William have often been vocal about how beneficial it is for the mental and physical health of children – and adults – to spend some time every day in contact with nature.
Unlike their previous home in central London, Kensington Palace, the cottage allows Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis the freedom to play in acres of greenery.
The property is situated on the Windsor Great Park estate and as such is surrounded by an immense green area which grants the family plenty of space where to play and privacy to carry out their activities far from the public eye.
Given its position, the home also benefits the estate’s security detail, granting care-free walks, bike rides and open-air games.
The perks of living in Windsor for a nature-loving family such as the Waleses were highlighted by royal commentators last summer, when the move from London to Windsor had been confirmed by Kensington Palace.
Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty Magazine, said relocating to the private cottage would take away the “goldfish bowl” aspect of the five royals’ life.
He added: “Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace is perfect in so many ways but the Duke and Duchess and their children are unable to come and go as they might like or take advantage of the nearby London parks because of the ever-present privacy issues.”

Last August, a source also said the move had been dictated entirely by a desire by Kate and William to give George, Charlotte and Louis “a bit more freedom than they have living in central London”.
The decision, the insider added, had “been led by the kids”.
Among the activities favoured by George, Charlotte and Louis are believed to be horse riding and gardening.
Their doting mother Kate previously opened up about some of the activities she likes to do with her children.
During one engagement in the midst of the coronavirus lockdown, she shared how her children enjoyed a sunflower growing competition and, during another occasion, she revealed how she is encouraging their love for horse riding despite her not fully embracing the hobby.
Another perk Adelaide Cottage has is its proximity to Carole and Michael Middleton’s home in Bucklebury if the Wales family wants to spend some time with George, Charlotte and Louis’s maternal grandparents.
If however Kate and William decided to take a break from their lives in Adelaide Cottage this week, the family of five could head to their Norfolk home – Anmer Hall – which has been for years one of their favourite destinations for breaks and weekends.
In the past, they also spent some of their half-term breaks abroad – travelling for example in October 2021 to Jordan.
