Pals Oprah Winfrey and Megan Markle could battle each other for vacant Senate seat

Meghan Markle and close pal Oprah Winfrey could battle it out for votes.

After the sad announcement that California Senator Diane Feinstein had died at 90 on Friday, all eyes went straight to California Governor Gavin Newsom, who is tasked with filling the vacant seat.

One of the names reportedly being floated around was Meghan, who has been very open about her passion for politics.

The Duchess of Sussex has also reportedly been getting guidance from Governor Newsom.

“Meghan is definitely a long shot but in the craziness that is US politics these days it’s not an impossibility,” a major Democratic donor told the Mail on Sunday

“Crazier things have happened.”

But Meghan is not the only name reportedly being considered to fill the vacant spot. None other than former talk show host and billionaire Oprah Winfrey.

Oprah is no stranger to being asked if she would ever dip her toe into politics, but fans shouldn’t hold their breath.

As recently as May an Oprah source confirmed she “is not considering the seat should it become vacant,” according to the LA Times.

Newsom himself could also take the seat.

The two term governor has national ambitions, with many hoping he would throw his hat in the Presidential race and challenge President Biden.

Newsom has said he has no plans to do so, and instead has been campaigning for the current President.
