Newport vs Man Utd suspended as 'medical emergency' halts FA Cup tie

Manchester United’s FA Cup fourth-round tie with Newport has been paused due to a medical emergency in the final 10 minutes of their clash, with the visitors at Rodney Parade leading 3-2. A fan required medical attention in the 81st minute and the home side’s medical team rushed across the pitch to attend the scene.

Newport had been awaiting to send a wide free-kick into the United box at the time as they went in search of an equalising goal, but were told to pause as the referee went over to the side of the pitch as play was then stopped to deal with the incident.

United physios then offered to take care of any injuries to Newport players while they dealt with the emergency in the stands, as Rodney Parade turned into a nervous atmosphere with plenty of well-wishes from the BBC commentary team going towards the person affected.

Play did resume minutes later, with the free-kick hit too long and the Welsh side were unable to grab a third goal before a stoppage-time Rasmus Hojlund finish confirmed the visitors’ place in the fifth round.
