Netflix sparks Royal Family fan frenzy as it releases sneak peek of The Crown Season 6

Netflix has released first-look pictures from the sixth and final season of The Crown which show Princess Diana a few months before her death – and it seems to have been given the royal fan seal of approval.

In the photos, Diana can be seen wearing a pink bathing suit while on a private yacht, in another one she’s sitting in a car with Dodi Fayed, while there’s also one showing the late Princess of Wales embracing her two sons, Prince Harry and Prince William.

Other photos show Prince Harry and Prince William alongside their father, then-Prince Charles, walking their dog Widgeon along the banks of the River Dee at Balmoral Castle.

But in one of the most striking pictures, Diana is seen up close, surrounded by paparazzi and wearing the black blazer she wore on the night of the fatal car crash in 1997.

Netflix’s sixth instalment of The Crown will be released in two parts – one on November 16 and one on December 14.

The first part will feature four episodes and cover the final months of Diana’s life, as well as the devastating impact of her death, while the second one will feature six episodes and will focus on the late Queen’s life as she approaches her Golden Jubilee, the marriage of Charles and Camilla, as well as the blossoming romance of William and Kate.

The controversial scenes showing Diana’s last moments have been largely criticised with the producers saying they will handle the subject of the princess’s death “sensitively”.

But royal fans couldn’t contain their excitement after the release of the latest photos.

One wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “I’m super excited about this!” while another one said: “And we will be here for it!” and a third one added: “OMG can’t wait. Dianaaaa Love you my queen”

But others agreed the new episodes with Diana’s last moments will be tough to watch. One fan claimed: “This will be tough to watch” while another one added: “I know it’s gonna break me!”

Elizabeth Debicki, who portrays Diana, said: “I think it’s a really unique challenge as an actor, to portray those days.

“I really just trusted in Peter’s emotional blueprint that he created for us to follow. It’s his interpretation and I think it made emotional sense to me, so I clung to that.

“Because, obviously, it’s devastating and it’s fraught and we can never know.”

Khalid Abdalla described playing Dodi Fayed, as “the honour of my life”.

Dominic West, who plays Prince Charles, added: “I think he’s got real sadness to him and real compassion and what’s great about The Crown is that you see these public figures in private. “

Imelda Staunton returns as Queen Elizabeth II, while Rufus Kampa and Fflyn Edwards play William and Harry.
