'My neighbour house exploded before my eyes': Horror as huge gas explosion destroys homes

An explosion at a home in Yorkshire has left a gaping hole in the terraced property and caused a fire in the roof. Residents living near to the house in Goole were evacuated in the early hours of the morning and the street remains closed.

Flames could be seen licking the roof of the house in Marlborough Avenue during the early hours of today (January 22).

Emergency services attended the scene and investigations as to the cause of the fire and the explosion are ongoing.

Yorkshire Live says the house reportedly exploded following a gas leak.

The extent of injuries have not yet been confirmed but speculation online suggests that no one was hurt.

Nicolescu Sorin witnessed what happened and said: “It was a gas explosion, it happened around 1am. Pieces of the house wall fell over the cars and across the street, including power lines/tv cable.

“It’s the first time I’ve seen something like this. The intervention of the firemen and the police was exceptional.

“Their involvement in our safety is commendable, not being English citizens, the neighbours welcomed us into their homes. It was a cold night and a lesson from which I learned.

“Everyone be careful. From 1 am to 9 am we were evacuated – a terrible experience so please take care of you and your homes.”
