A man has died after plunging from the Tryfan mountain in Snowdonia while out walking with his two brothers on bank holiday Monday. The unfortunate incident occurred when the trio strayed too far west during their descent, ending up in the treacherous Y-Gully area.
The Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Service reported that the eldest brother slipped and tumbled down the gully, suffering severe injuries. His siblings, unable to descend, dialled 999 for help.
Several rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, along with a coastguard helicopter. A spokesperson said: “A group of three brothers had ascended the North Ridge of Tryfan.
“On the descent they strayed too far to the west and ended up in the Y-Gully area. The oldest brother slipped and tumbled down the gully some distance, sustaining significant injuries.”
Despite locating the walkers and directing team members to the casualty’s location, it was sadly clear that the man had not survived his injuries. He was evacuated by stretcher while his brothers were safely roped and guided down to the road where they were met by the Welsh Ambulance Service, North Wales Live reports.
“The thoughts of the team are with the family at this difficult time.”
