'My neighbour banned me from pool but wants me to do their bins when they're away'

A mum has spoken out about after she felt her neighbours thought her family was “not good enough for the pool but good enough for the bins”.

The mother said she and her partner had been asked by “friends” to watch their property while they were on holiday and to take out the bins.

But the angry parent revealed that while she and her family had security and bin duty approval, the neighbours had told them they wouldn’t feel comfortable with their children using the pool.

She told Australian news site Kidspot: “I was surprised [when they said no] because it was definitely not what I was expecting. We had always been welcome to use the pool before, and were always invited over for a swim, so I wasn’t sure why we couldn’t now.”

Elaborating the parent explained the neighbour was concerned about liability if anything happened in the pool when they were away.

She added the neighbour said that being the pool’s owner “it was their responsibility to ensure that the pool was used safely”, but the mother argued she and her husband “would always supervise our kids”.

She also pointed out her children were teenagers and could “swim well”.

With the neighbour not backing down, the mother said she was “furious” with the situation especially as the country where they lived became very hot over the summer.

Deliberating the situation in her own mind the banned pool mum said she thought the decision was “rude and selfish” and that if she and her family were responsible enough to “keep an eye” on the house and “collect the mail”, surely they could use the pool.

She concluded that her family had yet to break the rules and “succumb to the pool temptation” but that the whole scenario had made her see her neighbour in a “whole new light”, adding: “It makes me feel used and as if we are not good enough for the pool but good enough for the bins”.
