Mum slammed as 'rude' for rocking baby to sleep on 14-hour flight

A mother was accused of being rude after she tried to soothe her baby on a 14-hour flight.

The mother decided to stand by the exit door of a plane mid-flight.

However, this angered other passengers who accused her of being selfish for standing in an area where passengers had more legroom than others.

Her actions attracted the outrage after she posed an innocent and light-hearted video on Instagram.

She explained how her child had difficulty sleeping and why she was standing.

Aliza Carr wrote on Instagram: “Even as a midwife, I thought the most strenuous part of becoming a mama – was pregnancy. And for some, that is the case, but for me, it was 100 percent the postpartum phase.

“It was this, right here. The hours and hours each day of never getting a break.

“I remember this flight, it was 14+ hours straight and I remember taking Panadols for my butt and leg muscles that were aching.

“If you’ve travelled with a little one, how did they go to sleep? I know if my child’s life depended on it, she wouldn’t sleep in the plane bassinet, or even on us – standing, bouncing, and aggressively swaying is the only way.”

Ms Carr received criticism from passengers who called her “rude” because they had paid extra money to stand in an area with more legroom.

Ms Carr admitted that she had been confused by the negativity because the video was meant to show the reality of travelling with a baby.

Fellow users were quick to comment and attack Ms Carr for her actions.

One person wrote: “These ‘dancing mamas’ are so annoying, they jump around and annoy everyone. I had the luck to fly with a similar woman recently.”

Another person said: “If I was sitting at that exit row and paid for the extra legroom… I’d be so mad having this happening in front of me the whole flight!”

In response, Ms Carr replied: “Ahh, I’m so sorry that seeing a mother trying to soothe her baby, clearly trying her best could ever ‘anger’ you – this is so sad to see.

“I hope you’d put your children above the happiness of a stranger on a plane. Also, as you can see I’m nowhere near anyone’s legs or ‘extra room’.”

While some attacked Ms Carr, others defended her. One person said simply: “Wouldn’t you rather this than a crying baby on your flight?”
