The trailer for the new film The American Society of Magical Negroes has sparked fierce backlash after saying “white people” are the most dangerous animals on Earth.
The trailer was released on Friday and immediately called outcry on social media, with one conservative social media account calling it “Harry Potter for woke racists”.
The film is described as a satirical comedy that aims to put a spin on the “magical negro” trope that sees black people being used merely to help white people before vanishing from the plot.
Focus Features said it’s about a black man who is “recruited into a secret society of magical black people who dedicate their lives to a cause of utmost importance: making white people’s lives easier.”
The hotly debated trailer begins with the main character, Aren, being made to feel uncomfortable as he walks through a room full of white people, before being recruited into the secret society.

After explaining the purpose of the society, Aren’s tutor Roger asks him what he thinks the most dangerous animal in the world is. After Aren incorrectly guesses sharks, Roger reveals the answer is white people.
He says: “When they feel uncomfortable. White people feeling uncomfortable precedes a lot of bad stuff for us. That’s why we fight white discomfort every day, because the happier they are, the safer we are.”
Later on in the trailer, Aren says: “I’ve always felt like it’s my job to make white people feel comfortable, and here it literally is, but maybe it shouldn’t be.”
This comes after embarking on his quest with his magical powers to secretly help a white man become happy, but things take a complicated turn after they both fall in love with the same woman.
The trailer outraged many, with those angered taking to social media platform X to voice their disgust. Filmmaker Robby Starbuck wrote: “The thing that’s going to do wokeness in is how cringe it is. We should almost be thanking Hollywood and the media at this point
“As they become more cringe with this racist, woke BS, more people wake up and search out alternatives. Only lunatics would want this.”
Podcast host Luke Rudkowski echoed Starbuck’s sentiment. He simply wrote: “What kind of racist sh*tty bulls**t movie is this?”
