Moment Orthodox Jewish man attacked with bottle in London 'hate crime' attack

Shocking footage has shown a north London man being targeted with appalling anti-Semitic abuse and apparently assaulted – as another thug shouts: “Stab him.”

The CCTV clip, shared by neighbourhood watch organisation Shomrim shows an Orthodox Jewish man being followed along a street in Stamford Hill by an individual carrying a blue plastic bag who appears to confront him.

A voice in the background can be heard shouting “f******” Jew before saying: “Stab him, stab him.”

The victim is then backed up against the door of a shop and the other man appears to lash out with an object, possibly a bottle.

The Jewish man then runs away, at which point the other man walks off.

Shomrim, which shared the clip via X, formerly Twitter, commented: “Orthodox #Jewish victim assaulted with a bottle while being screamed at by a deranged #Racist: ‘You Mother F***ing Jew, I’ll Stab You!’

“Meanwhile, another #Racist screamed ‘Stab Him!’”

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed officers had received a “third-party report” on October 29 about a “verbal and physical assault against a man at Dunsmure Road, N16”

It added: “The assault is reported to have taken place at around 00:15hrs on Saturday, 28 October.

“Officers have since located the victim, aged 40s, and an appointment will be scheduled at his convenience to obtain a statement.”

Enquiries were underway to establish the identity of the suspect, the spokesman said.

He added: “The incident is being treated as a hate crime. Officers from the Met’s Central East Command investigate.

“In recent days we have implemented extra patrols in Hackney where our communities feel vulnerable and these will continue.

“We want to ensure all our communities feel safe.“Hate crime has no place in London and we urge anyone who has been subjected to, or has witnessed such behaviour to contact police immediately.”

Figures released by the Met last month and covering the period from October 1 to October 18 suggested a 1,350 percent increase in hate crimes against Jewish people in the Capital, compared with the same period in 2022.

Islamophobic attacks were also up significantly, by 140 percent, said deputy assistant commissioner Ade Adelekan.

Speaking to Times Radio on Monday, Tory MP Robert Halfon, who is himself Jewish, said: “It’s horrific. It’s scary. It’s frightening for Jewish people in England at the moment, you know.

“I really welcome that the Prime Minister has done everything possible to support those of the Jewish faith, but it is frightening when you hear those chants … when you hear cries of jihad every week in central London. It is frightening.”

Mr Halfon continued: “When you hear that Jewish schools have to close their doors, when you hear of students – I am the universities minister as well – I get messages from Jewish chaplaincy service in higher education that Jewish students are having Palestinian flags draped over their cars or doors knocked on of the Jewish chaplain with people knocking on doors saying ‘we know where you live’.

“Antisemitism has gone up enormously even in my area of higher education. The Community Security Trust suggested it has gone up by over 400 percent since October 7.

“So, it is not a great time for those of the Jewish faith but I’m glad that the Government is doing everything possible to support the Jewish community.”

An estimated 100,000 people took part in a pro-Palestine march in London at the weekend, with 11 arrested for public order offences including hate crimes.
