Man dies in parachute horror on UK industrial estate as police issue urgent appeal

A man has died in a parachute horror at a County Durham industrial estate.

The man, who was in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officers and emergency services rushed to the scene at South West Industrial Estate in Shotton at 12.30pm on Saturday following concerns for a man’s welfare.

A cordon was put in place and remained there for some time.

Now the police are appealing for anyone with footage of the incident to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Mel Sutherland, who is leading the investigation, said: “Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on the A19 at around 12.20pm to 12.30pm who may have mobile phone footage or dashcam footage which captures the moments leading up to the incident.

“Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this time,” reports MailOnline.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 12:22 BST to reports of an incident in the South West Industrial Estate areas of Peterlee.

“We dispatched four Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART), a clinical team leader, a specialist paramedic, two ambulances and requested support from the air ambulance.”

Anyone with information can contact 101 quoting incident number 168 of April 27.

This comes after a British base jumper fell to his death after his parachute failed to open in January.

Nathy Odinson, a 33-year-old from Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, climbed to the top of a 29-floor apartment building in the coastal resort of Pattaya, Thailand. The incident was recorded by a friend of the daredevil.

In the clip, Mr Odinson can be seen asking the person behind the camera, who stood on the other side of a security wall, whether the recorder on his helmet was flashing a red light, which would indicate it was recording.

After realising it wasn’t, Mr Odinson removed the protective headgear and pressed the button to begin the recording. Shortly after putting back on the helmet, he can be seen checking his parachute.

Seconds before his death, the man could be seen counting down, “Three, two, one, see ya”.

Mr Odinson then leapt into the night sky and plunged to the ground, with only the small pilot chute flailing behind him while he was in the air. Before hitting the ground, Mr Odinson is believed to have landed in a tree.

The friend recording the incident can be heard saying “Oh f***” after hearing Mr Odinson falling to his death.
