Mike Tindall reveals why Prince Louis doesn't join other royals for Christmas lunch

Mike Tindall has previously revealed some secrets of what goes on behind Palace doors at Christmas time – especially when it comes to the royal children.

Before the main celebrations take place at Sandringham, the royals enjoy a huge lunch and get-together in the run-up to the big day.

This year’s event took place on Wednesday, December 20 in Windsor and many of the royals were in attendance.

Mike previously shared that although they are in attendance, the younger royals – including Prince Louis – do not sit with fellow royals.

Instead, Mike shared that the young royals all – including his own children – sit in a separate room to enjoy their Christmas lunch.

In 2019, Mike spoke about the celebrations on his own rugby podcast ‘The Good, The Bad & The Rugby’. James Haskell and Alex Payne, Mike’s co-stars, then asked the royal which of the seven tables he is sat at.

After marrying Zara Tindall in 2011, Mike has spent the last 12 Christmasses in the presence of the Royal Family.

James and Alex asked: “Do you find yourself upgrading every year and getting closer to the main table or are you off out the back?

“Is there a promotion and relegation based on the year’s performance? Because if there is I imagine you’re pretty much sitting on the right-hand side of Her Majesty.”

After sharing that he was on the then-Prince Charles’ table, Mike added: “This is the family lunch, there were seven tables so there must have been about 70 of us there.

“The kiddies have their own little one in a different room.”

Since marrying Zara, the pair have since welcomed three children – Mia, nine, Lena, five, and two-year-old Lucas.

As well as Zara, Mike and their children, the King and Queen will be joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

The King has made sure that the big day is a big family affair – even extending invitations to Camilla’s family too.

Queen Camilla will be joined by her son, Tom Parker Bowles and daughter, Laura Lopes – as well as her five grandchildren.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are, however, not set to join the family. The couple are opting to spend Christmas in the US with their two children – Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two.
