Meghan Markle not expected to join Prince Harry on his visit to the UK

Meghan Markle is not likely to accompany her husband Prince Harry when he travels back to the UK for the Invictus Games Foundation’s 10th Anniversary next month.

The Duke of Sussex has confirmed his attendance for the service at St Paul’s Cathedral on Wednesday, May 8, via a spokesperson, although they did not comment on whether or not Meghan would be joining him.

The Duchess has not been back to the UK since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022, with Harry making various solo trips since, including to his father’s Coronation.

Whether or not Meghan comes is also likely to reflect whether or not the Sussex children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will come back to Britain for a rare visit.

It has been speculated that Harry could reunite with his estranged family members King Charles and Prince William, on his first trip to his home country since his sister-in-law Princess Kate announced her cancer diagnosis on March 22.

Meghan’s no-show at the Coronation was put down to a clash with Archie’s birthday on May 6, with the Invictus service this year falling just two days after the occasion.

The Duchess has so far supported Harry at Invictus events throughout the past several years by travelling to Australia, the Netherlands and Germany, as well as marking one year to go until Invictus 2025 earlier this year in Canada.

During the service in central London, in just ten days time, Harry will be celebrating the impact of sport on people’s lives and will give a special reading at St Paul’s.

Acclaimed actor Damien Lewis is also expected to recite the Invictus poem during the service, with Harry known to be a particular fan of his work as he chose the Wolf Hall star as the person he would most like to play him in a film of his life.

Other major members of the Firm are not thought to be attending, and it is also not clear where the Duke of Sussex will stay during his time in the UK.

He and Meghan were evicted from their British home, Frogmore Cottage, last year, with Harry staying in a hotel last time he came to London for a brief visit in February.

Royal reporter Richard Palmer told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show: “I do think Harry and his father are trying to reconcile. I think with William it’s going to be a much longer process.

“But eventually, maybe, you know that lots of families have disputes and over time they can heal their divisions, but there’s a big job to be done yet with William.”

Expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “The way attempts to end the rift might succeed is if they happen privately, though there is bound to be enormous media speculation about what will happen.

“It is in everyone’s interest that the rift is healed but at its heart is a matter of trust.”
