Meghan Markle shares her top tip for flying, having 'travelled so often'

During her Suits days, Meghan Markle spoke to Good Housekeeping about a number of topics including family, fashion, food and travel.

In the 2016 interview she shared an essential travel tip for women who want to look polished on a plane.

She said: “I love to travel and I travel so often, so for me I think what I’ve learnt is there’s certain things you can do that just make you look a bit more polished when you’re travelling.”

Comfort is key when flying – especially on long haul flights – but it’s possible to be stylish and cosy with Meghan’s top tip.

She continued: “You can still dress really comfortably. I try to dress monochromatically, just like some really great, comfy trousers, simple top, a black blazer – something like that.”

Meghan explained that this kind of outfit makes you look “refined”.

Monochromatic dressing simply means dressing in a single colour. This doesn’t mean you must wear a shirt, blazer, trousers and accessories all in the same shade. Instead, opt for different shades and tints of the same colour.

Because comfort is key for air travel, footwear is equally as important as outfit, according to the actress turned royal fashionista.

She advised: “Definitely wear sneakers, not heels – and I always bring a great little cashmere throw so you can stay warm on the flight.”

In the same conversation, Meghan revealed what she most enjoys doing on a flight, suggesting that it’s the perfect time to kick back and relax.

The seasoned traveller is certainly not afraid of flying – in fact, she absolutely loves it.

The now Duchess said: “The best way to kill time on a flight is to drink wine and watch movies. Yeah! It’s like a vacation in the sky.”

In a piece on Meghans’ old blog The Tig, the then actress discussed her travel essentials, one of which is a “scarf or thin cashmere blanket that feels like a hug”.

She said: “Throw it in your purse or backpack, and no matter how far you travel, you will always feel comforted both on and off the plane with something that feels and smells like home.

“This has become invaluable to me when catching some Zzzzzs on a flight or feeling swaddled in a hotel room.”
