Meghan Markle set to clash with Princess Kate's brother James Middleton over new brand

Meghan Markle is set to compete with the Princess of Wales’s brother, James Middleton, with her latest business venture.

The Duchess of Sussex soft launched her new business, American Riviera Orchard, earlier this month with a brand new Instagram page which links to a website where people can sign up for a waiting list.

This week, it emerged that the former Suits actress will be selling shampoo, chicken feed and yoga bolsters through her new brand.

It also emerged that Meghan has lodged papers to trademark the initials of her new business, with a list of items she is looking to sell made available to view in a trademark application extension.

Last week papers were lodged at the US Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the company’s logo, which features the letters ARO written in flowery gold script above the word Montecito – where Meghan and Prince Harry currently live with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The papers revealed that Meghan is also looking to expand into skincare, stationary and pet products as well, including “Pet food; Edible pet treats; Bird seed”.

Princess Kate’s brother has set up his own high-end dog food business, called James & Ella which means he and Meghan will be rivals in the pet food industry.

Among its products, Hello Ella sells raw and cold-pressed dog food as well as air-dried treats. The company is named after Mr Middleton’s therapy spaniel, Ella, who died last year.

On the website, he stated that his dogs helped “pull me out of a really difficult battle with depression.

“When I reached the other side, I set out on a mission to make their lives just as happy and as healthy as they’ve made mine, starting with the food they eat.

“I’ve pulled together a team of industry experts and nutritionists. Together, we developed a range of food that contains all the ingredients and nutrition for dogs to live a long and happy life, but without any hassle.”
