Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding made late Queen Elizabeth 'uncomfortable'

The late Queen Elizabeth was reportedly “uncomfortable” with some parts during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018.

Although Meghan and Harry couldn’t stop smiling throughout their nuptials, not everyone in attendance shared the same happiness.

Meghan and Harry tied the knot in Windsor on May 19, 2018 – less than two years after they first met.

The late Queen is said to have taken issue with some things on the couple’s big day – including one moment that she was “desperate” to be over.

Here, Express.co.uk takes a look at four parts of Meghan and Harry’s big day that the late Queen found “uncomfortable”.

The late Queen is said to have thought Meghan’s dress – which was designed by Givenchy – was not fit for a divorcee.

Meghan previously married to Trevor Engelson in 2011, but the couple separated in 2013. The couple’s divorce was finalised in 2014.

While many thought that Meghan looked elegant in her dress, which featured three-quarter sleeves and an open bateau neckline, the late Queen reportedly thought it was very “flamboyant”.

Although the late Queen never publicly voiced her opinion, she confided in her cousin Lady Elizabeth Anson.

According to an extract from Ingrid Seward’s new book, My Mother and I, the late Queen thought the dress was “too white” for the Duchess of Sussex – especially as it was her second marriage.

According to Ms Seward’s new book, the late Queen wasn’t happy that her son was walking Meghan down the aisle.

As Meghan’s father was unable to make her big day, Harry is known to have asked his father to walk his bride down the aisle.

The late Queen is said to have been “uncomfortable” with this decision, although Charles was more than happy to do so for his son and daughter-in-law.

Stating in the documentary, Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70, Harry recalled: “I asked him to and I think he knew it was coming and he immediately said, ‘Yes, of course, I’ll do whatever Meghan needs and I’m here to support you.”

Just five weeks before Harry and Meghan’s wedding, the late Prince Philip had undergone hip replacement surgery.

The late Queen was reportedly concerned at how her husband would be on the big day, especially how he would go about walking into the venue.

In her book, Ms Seward said: “She was so concerned about 96-year-old Prince Philip’s decision to walk down the aisle without a stick, despite having had a hip replacement just five weeks before.”

The late Queen is said to have wanted the ceremony to end – especially with Archbishop Michael Curry’s 14-minute speech.

Despite having not met Harry nor Meghan prior to the wedding day, Archbishop Michael Curry previously told US Weekly that it did not take him long to realise how in love Harry and Meghan were.

The late Queen was reportedly amongst the guests who were “startled by the impassioned outpouring”.

According to Ms Seward, the late Queen was “desperate for him to finish” the long speech.

She added: “They must also have been aware that some of those around them were stifling their laughter.”
