Meghan Markle and Prince Harry 'playing chicken' with Firm over royal return

Rumours are swirling around Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the Royal Family, but one expert has said they’re caught in a “complete stalemate”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from royal duties four years ago, but Harry recently revealed his plans to return to the UK after King Charles was diagnosed with cancer. Former royal butler Grand Harrold believes Harry and Meghan could be welcomed back to The Firm, but author Charles Anderson doesn’t think it’s possible.

“For those who think Harry is seriously contemplating a move back into the royal fold, I have two words: dream on,” Charles said.

The royal author explained Harry is “extremely content” with his new life in California, which makes it unlikely he would want to return to the UK permanently.

Speaking to Fox News, he said: “It’s not as if the Royal Family has shown the faintest interest in welcoming him home. Even if Harry wanted to pitch in while his father, the king, is battling cancer and Kate Middleton is temporarily out of commission, Prince William won’t allow it.”

Charles described the situation as a “royal game of chicken” and said it’s unclear who will give in first.

His comments come after Grant, who worked for King Charles for seven years, admitted it is difficult to say for certain if Meghan and Harry will return as full-time royals, but that “it is possible”.

He told The New York Post the Royal Family will have to fix their strained relationships before a reunion can be had. Grant suggested: “He [Harry] could have a discussion with his brother about resuming his royal duties, but obviously there is so much that has happened over the last couple of years and that needs to be sorted out before the Sussexes made a permanent return.”

However, the former royal butler believes the relationship is not “too far gone” to be fixed. Harry and William have become estranged in recent years, with the Duke of Sussex detailing their strained relationship in his memoir.

Grant reminisced about how close Harry and William had been when he worked for the Royal Family. He also suggested it would be good for Meghan to return to the UK alongside Harry and their two children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Since moving to America, Meghan is yet to return to the UK. Harry has made several return trips to his homeland, but his wife has always stayed with their children in their California mansion.
