Meghan and Harry's 'insensitive' outing defended by Denise Welch amid King's health scare

Denise Welch has slammed the notion that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle should cancel their social appointments ahead of King Charles’ prostate operation as “ridiculous”. The Loose Women star passionately defended the pair after they received backlash for choosing to attend a Bob Marley movie premiere.

Denise, 65, is an outspoken supporter of Prince Harry and Meghan, often stepping in when the pair are criticised for their behaviour. The ITV star took to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, to share her thoughts on their recent outings in light of King Charles’ health scare.

She told her 556,800 followers: “If anyone’s dad had been going in for a procedure but was not yet in hospital and was otherwise doing ok, the thought that we would cancel all engagements is utterly ridiculous!!”

The presenter went on to claim that the couple had been “demonised” and described the attitude towards them as “bullying”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the red carpet for the new Bob Marley film One Love last night, joining the stars in Kingston, Jamaica.

Royal commentator Phil Dampier subsequently told MailOnline: “It seems Harry and Meghan will turn up at the opening of an envelope these days.

“Under normal circumstances, there would be nothing wrong with them going to a film premiere.

“But at a time when his father is going under the knife and Jamaica is making noises about ditching the monarchy, this is rather insensitive.”

The public was recently shocked to learn that King Charles is preparing for a prostate operation.

He will soon attend hospital so that his enlarged prostate can be treated. Buckingham Palace has clarified that the monarch’s condition is benign and that he will simply undergo a “corrective procedure”.

It is also understood that the 75-year-old royal’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton has also required a hospital visit recently, having just undergone abdominal surgery.

The Princess of Wales, who is married to Prince William, was admitted to the London Clinic last Tuesday ahead of a successful planned operation.
