Meghan and Harry in 'frustrating period' as Hollywood strikes could stall Netflix projects

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are going through a “frustrating period” as the actors and writers strikes continue to impact life in the entertainment industry, according to an expert.

Since their deal with Spotify came to an end in June there have been questions raised as to whether the Sussexes will be able to put out enough content to keep them relevant and financially secure.

Their contract with Netflix is not due to expire until 2025, with their next documentary Heart of Invictus expected to drop on the platform next month.

However the dispute between the guilds and studios could present a problem with future projects as it was reported earlier this year that Harry and Meghan were planning to start work on a new series based on the Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations.

US-based royal expert Kinsey Schofield told Express.co.uk: “Archewell Productions has primarily hired scripted writers and producers so the current strikes will negatively effect Harry and Meghan’s future plans with Netflix.

“While no one has control over the strikes, the Sussexes’ saving grace could very well be Meghan’s representation at WME.

“With the strikes happening behind the scenes, WME has the capability of combing through television show pitches, developing a potential cast, and putting together a plan of action allowing Archewell to hit the ground running once the strikes are settled.”

Back in April Meghan signed with top talent agency William Morris Endeavour (WME), whose other clients have previously included Dwayne Johnson, Adele and the Duchess’s pal Serena Williams.

Ms Schofield added: “WME is much more organized and connected in the industry than Archewell is.

“This has got to be a frustrating period for the Sussexes as there is an expiration date on their working relationship with Netflix. 2025. The countdown is on to prove their value.”

Before meeting and marrying Harry, Meghan had a starring role on another top Netflix show, Suits, in which she played attorney Rachel Zane, however she stepped down from the part in order to join the Royal Family.

Some have noticed that Meghan has not said anything publicly regarding the strikes, with this year’s Emmy Awards expected to be postponed to next year due to the conflict.

The Duchess was once part of the Screen Actors Guild union (SAG-AFTRA), which has joined the Writers Guild of America (WGA) in protest over pay and the use of AI technology.

During her interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan described being part of a union as one thing she “sorely missed” when joining the Firm.
