Martin Brundle has promised that Lewis Hamilton will appear on the grid walk segment of the Sky Sports F1 broadcast again before he retires from the sport. According to the legendary broadcaster, the Mercedes driver steers clear of the responsibilities on superstitious grounds after he was informed that their chats correlated with his crashes.
The 64-year-old is let loose on the grid in the build-up to lights out on Grand Prix weekends for the most popular part of the Sky Sports F1 pre-race show, speaking to celebrities as well as former and current drivers.
Brundle has chatted with the likes of George Russell, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris on multiple occasions this season, but Hamilton has been suspiciously absent from his interviews with the seven-time world champion proving elusive for the legendary broadcaster.
During a fan Q&A session with Sky Sports F1 readers, Brundle was asked whether or not he planned to interview Hamilton again on his grid walk segment before the seven-time world champion calls time on his F1 career.

“Yeah, I do, and I will,” Brundle promised. “But then also, somebody convinced Lewis that every time he talked to me on the grid, he crashed. But I spoke to two of the three podium drivers on the grid in Abu Dhabi and actually could have spoken to Max as well if I’d have been a bit sharper, so I didn’t bring them bad luck.”
Brundle has at least two more seasons in which he can interview Hamilton on the grid. The 38-year-old put pen to paper earlier this year on a contract extension that will keep him with Mercedes until the end of the 2025 season.
Hamilton’s 2023 campaign was encouraging from an external perspective. He finished on the podium on six occasions on his way to a P3 finish in the Drivers’ Championship standings. With Red Bull proving nigh-on unbeatable thanks to the sensational design of the RB19, the legendary Brit was forced to settle for the ‘best of the rest’ tag.
However, while his P3 finish and Mercedes’ second-place finish in the Constructors’ Championship represent impressive achievements, this was little consolation for Hamilton who is sticking around in F1 to secure his record-breaking eighth World Championship.
