Man Utd's January transfer hopes all but over after fringe star 'rejects exit'

Anthony Martial is set to leave Manchester United on a free transfer this summer after rejecting the prospect of departing in the January transfer window, according to reports. United are set to make a significant loss on the French striker, with Erik ten Hag left increasingly unlikely to add any fresh faces to his squad this month.

Martial has been heavily linked with a Red Devils exit before the winter transfer deadline after entering the final six months of his current contract.

United opted against triggering a 12-month extension in their No 9’s deal with the view of releasing him at the end of the season if he stays beyond January.

And that now looks to be the most likely outcome as Martial plans to bide his time over his next destination rather than rushing to a decision in the coming weeks.

According to Sky Sports, Martial wants to stay at Old Trafford until the summer and has no interest in leaving before February.

The 28-year-old has turned down interest from Fenerbahce, Marseille and the Saudi Pro League and is ready to fight for his place in Ten Hag’s squad.

United are said to have held talks with Martial and his representatives, with all signs now pointing towards a free transfer later this year.
