Man Utd star Andre Onana 'faces brutal drop' after break as Erik ten Hag puts foot down

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is at risk of being dropped just months after his £47million transfer from Inter Milan, according to reports. Onana has suffered a shaky start to life at Old Trafford, and he could be the next victim of Erik ten Hag’s push to raise standards in M16.

Ten Hag boldly decided to sanction David de Gea’s summer exit upon the expiry of his contract, ending 11 years as United’s No 1.

He identified Onana as his preferred replacement, having worked with the 27-year-old at Ajax, for his superior ball-playing abilities and character.

But Onana has struggled to settle into life in Manchester, contributing to United’s disastrous start with a series of high-profile mistakes.

The Cameroon international has conceded 19 goals in his first 11 appearances, bringing his shot-stopping ability under serious debate.

And Ten Hag could soon act if his big-money addition doesn’t improve when club football resumes after the October international break.

According to ESPN, Ten Hag is prepared to make a brutal decision in goal if Onana continues to concede preventable goals and put his teammates in jeopardy with questionable decision-making.

United also splashed £4m to sign Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, replacing Dean Henderson, who joined Crystal Palace in a £20m deal.

Ten Hag was attracted to the 25-year-old over younger alternatives for his experience but is yet to give him a chance over Onana.

However, United are backing Onana to prove his critics wrong in the coming months, and Ten Hag has taken steps on the training pitch to improve the situation.

The report claims United are working closely with their No 24 to help him mentally overcome mistakes.

He drew concerns by struggling to recover from his costly error for Bayern Munich’s opener in September’s 4-3 Champions League defeat.
