Man Utd 'preparing bid' for new Casemiro as Erik ten Hag repeats Rasmus Hojlund tactic

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is considering reinforcing his midfield by recruiting Atalanta star Ederson in the January transfer window, according to reports. The Red Devils are said to be weighing up the opportunity to add to Ten Hag’s ranks amid a disastrous second season in charge.

United’s official word has insisted that it will be a quiet month regarding Old Trafford incomings due to Financial Fair Play restrictions leaving the club cash-strapped.

But Ten Hag has flown out of the gate in clearing space in his squad, overseeing two departures in as many days at the start of 2024.

Donny van de Beek has joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan until the end of the season when the Bundesliga side will have the option to make the deal permanent for £12million.

Sergio Reguilon has also returned to Tottenham Hotspur after United triggered the break clause in his season-long loan.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are both expected to be available by the end of the month, with no European football in the second half of the campaign reducing game time.

Jadon Sancho is, too, nearing a departure from M16. Borussia Dortmund are reportedly in advanced talks to take the banished 23-year-old winger back to Germany until the end of the season at least.

United could use the freed-up space on the wage bill for a new permanent January signing rather than being limited to one or two loan deals.

According to GOAL Brazil, Ederson has emerged on the club’s radar as Ten Hag looks to address his midfield in a fourth consecutive transfer window.

It’s claimed that United are considering an official proposal for the 24-year-old, and the situation could develop this week.

The report adds that Ederson’s representatives have already been contacted, and Atalanta will demand more than the £13m fee they paid Salernitana in July 2022.

He had been in the Serie A for just six months before his switch to Atalanta, starting his career in his homeland, Brazil, where he represented Desportivo Brasil, Cruzeiro, Corinthians and Fortaleza.

Ederson has become an important player for La Dea, registering five goals and one assist in 23 Serie A and Europa League appearances this season.

United could be preparing for Casemiro’s exit this year, with the 31-year-old strongly linked with a switch to Saudi Arabia in the summer.

Christian Eriksen, also 31, will also require a replacement this year or next, which is set to be one of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s impending INEOS structure’s first recruitment tasks.
