Man City punished by suspect defending as Tottenham snatch last-minute draw

Manchester City threw away a comfortable lead against Tottenham as they fell to a third consecutive draw in the Premier League. Here, Express Sport takes you through the main talking points…

Man City leaky defence

Manchester City don’t look like the unbeatable powerhouse that they were last season. The Citizens’ defence has looked very leaky so far during the 2023/2024 campaign. In their last four games alone the treble winners have conceded ten goals and are struggling to hold leads.

For a third consecutive game, Man City have let their lead slip as they settled for a 3-3 draw. The game looked like it was all wrapped up at halftime as the reigning Premier League champions went into the break 2-1 up with all of the stats swinging heavily in their favour.

But City were punished for taking their foot off the gas in the second half. Giovani Lo Celso drew the visitors level in the 69th minute before Jack Grealish put his side back in front. Dejan Kulusevski then grabbed a last-gasp equaliser as the home side switched off.

Davies drops a clanger

Ben Davies looked out of his depth as Tottenham’s left-sided centre-back on Sunday. The Welshman, a natural full-back, undid Spurs’ high line for City’s second goal after getting dragged out by Julian Alvarez’s run, allowing Foden to slot the ball away on the edge of the six-yard box unchallenged.

Davies also came out second best in multiple individual battles against Jeremy Doku. The Belgian star terrorised Davies all game and appeared to be targeting him with his cutting runs across Spurs’ backline from the left flank.
