Man arrested after protest sees mice thrown into McDonad's branch

A 32-year-old man has been arrested after mice were thrown into a McDonald’s branch as part of a pro-Palestine protest.

A video emerged on social media showing a man releasing a number of rodents into the McDonad’s branch at Star City, Birmingham on Monday. Officers say a similar incident happened in Perry Barr.

A third protest was said to have taken place in Coventry Road, Small Heath. Officers are unsure if this incident is connected to the previous protests.

Officers have now released a picture of a second man they wish to speak to following the incidents. It comes as they are treating the protests as a public nuisance offences.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We want to speak with Billal Hussain over these incidents in Birmingham during the last few days. We’re asking for anyone with information about the whereabouts of Hussain, 30, to contact us now.”

Officers say they have executed a number of warrants since the incident. They say they suspect Hussain was involved in the “unacceptable” and “distressing” incidents.

The video that emerged from Star City on Monday showed mice coloured green, white and black, the colour of the Palestinian flag, released into the restaurant. While a subsequent video showed a box of mice in Perry Barr the following day.

McDonald’s said the restaurants were closed and cleaned following the protests. A spokesman said: “The restaurant has been fully sanitised and our partners have been called out to conduct a full inspection.”
