Liverpool may have used Andre as a decoy as £48m Brazil wonderkid emerges

Liverpool have reportedly been keeping a close eye on Palmeiras wonderkid Luis Guilherme while out scouting Andre in Brazil. The 17-year-old midfielder is among the highest-rated young players in the world and has caught the eye of many top European clubs.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Chelsea have been following his progress for a “long time”. Guilherme recently signed a new contract with Palmeiras until 2026 which includes a £48m release clause.

The young star made his professional debut in April, two months after his 17th birthday, coming on as a substitute in a 4–2 home win over Tombense. Since then, he has appeared 26 times in all competitions for the Serie A side.

Liverpool will be hoping they can complete a double swoop for Guilherme and Andre. The latter is thought to be the Reds’ top January transfer target.

According to the Sun, the Fluminense midfielder has already agreed personal terms over a move to Liverpool. Liverpool are yet to agree a deal with Fluminense, though, and there is still work to be done to see off stiff competition from other potential suitors.

Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked with the player. Regardless of where he goes, it seems Andre will fulfil his dream of playing for a major European side. He had the opportunity to move away from Fluminese midway through the 2023 Serie A season but opted to stay in order to steer his team to glory in the upcoming Copa Libertadores final against Boca Juniors.

“In this past window I didn’t talk about it, the first time I’m going to talk in more depth will be now,” he told CONMEBOL. “It really was an irrefutable proposal from the club that plays in a big league.

“I think every player one-day dreams of playing for a big club in Europe, in a big league. But I decided to keep my word because when the January window closed, Diniz [Fluminense manager] arrived and told me that he wanted me here until the end of the year. We didn’t know that a proposal of that amount would arrive and I told him that, regardless of what happened, I would be there until the end of the season.”
