Laurence Fox throws Dan Wootton under bus after GB News host's 'fake apology'

Laurence Fox has thrown fellow GB News host Dan Wootton “under the bus” following his “revolting” on-air rant this week, social media users have said.

Former actor Mr Fox posted a text exchange between the two men appearing to show Mr Wootton joking about the controversial moment, for which he has since apologised.

GB News is currently navigating the fallout from a “misogynistic” speech Mr Fox delivered on the host’s programme directed at JOE political correspondent Ava Evans which left the journalist feeling “physically sick”.

TV bosses suspended the commentator for his “inappropriate” comments questioning “who would ever climb into bed” with the journalist after massive public backlash.

Just hours later Mr Wootton was also sanctioned. The statement from GB News said: “GB News has suspended Dan Wootton following comments made on his programme by Laurence Fox last night.

“This follows our decision earlier today to formally suspend Mr Fox. We are conducting a full investigation.”

Posting on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Mr Fox posted a text from Mr Wootton talking about viewers “freaking out in the gallery”.

The text exchange, initiated by Mr Fox, starts with him telling the presenter that “making you giggle is my weekly joy”, followed by two laughing emojis.

Mr Wootton responded with three identical emojis and replied: “You can imagine them freaking out in the gallery!”

The last message in the conversation shows Mr Fox saying it was “so much fun”.

The exchange has led people to claim he was throwing Mr Wootton “under the bus” after the GB News flagship presenter apologised for the commentator’s outburst.

X user Stuart said: “When you’re thrown under the bus, pull them under with you.”

Another, Marcio Delgado, added: “Not sure how Wootton will crawl from under that bus.”

And Seanregal said: “Gbeebies imploding, such loyalty shown, who can throw who under the bus first.”

SirGorden accused Dan Wootton of issuing a “fake apology” to Ms Evans, adding: “You were sat smiling whilst the absolute helmet was ranting away on GB News. Pathetic.”

Mr Wootton and GB News have apologised for the Tuesday night outburst, with the presenter saying he wanted to “reiterate my regret over last night’s exchange” in a statement.

He added: “Having looked at the footage, I can see how inappropriate my reaction to his totally unacceptable remarks appears to be and want to be clear that I was in no way amused by the comments.”

In a statement following the interview, GB News said: “GB News has formally suspended Laurence Fox while we continue our investigation into comments he made on the channel last night.

“Mr Fox’s suspension is effective immediately and he has been taken off air. We will be apologising formally to Ms Evans today.”

But Mr Fox has refused to apologise, and doubled down on his statement in a post on the social media platform this morning.

He said he stands by “every word of what I said”, and reiterated his previous comments about Ms Evans.
