Kylian Mbappe storms down tunnel minutes after agreeing shirt swap with Newcastle star

Newcastle playmaker Sean Longstaff has revealed that he agreed mid-match to swap shirts with Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe on Wednesday night. The midfielder will be hoping to catch up with the France international behind the scenes, after watching him storm down the tunnel after the full-time whistle sounded.

The Magpies cruised to victory over PSG at St James’ Park, recording an emphatic 4-1 that will live long in the memories of supporters. Eddie Howe’s side dominated proceedings, with Miguel Almiron opening the scoring with a neat finish after just 17 minutes before Dan Burn doubled his boyhood club’s lead with a towering header at the back post in the 39th minute.

Newcastle then took a shock 3-0 lead when Longstaff linked up well with Kieran Tripper down the right before firing a fierce strike beneath Gianluigi Donnarumma before PSG defender Lucas Hernandez threw his side a lifeline with a glancing header to restore some hope. Defender Fabian Schar put the icing on the cake with a remarkable goal in extra time to send the home supporters into a frenzy, whipping a curling effort into the top corner from 25 yards out.

Howe’s side looked overjoyed at full-time, with boyhood Newcastle fan Longstaff pleased for three reasons: his goal, the victory and for securing Mbappe’s shirt. Having been spotted in discussions with the ex-Monaco star about a shirt swap during the match, the midfielder admitted: “I think I was blocking him for a goal kick so I thought I’m going to try and get it for my little brother. Hopefully I’ll still get it!”
