Penny Mordaunt made brutal jibe at her SNP counterpart in a Commons clash over Rwanda.
SNP Commons spokesperson Deidre Brock condemned a video released by the Home Office showing migrants being detained for deportation flights to the east African nation.
But in response, the Commons Leader mocked the SNP over a police probe into its finances which has seen a number of senior party figures arrested.
Ms Brock said: “Just when you think this Government could stoop no lower, they release a sickening detention video using real-life trauma to show their voters how tough they are.
“Who instructed the civil service to produce such a piece?
“Can we have an apology from the Home Office for their appalling misjudgement in electioneering?”
Ms Mordaunt said the Home Office video was made “for reassurance of the British public that those that do not have right to remain here are deported”.
She said: “There are images of people being put into the back of police vehicles.
“Scotland has produced quite a few similar videos although the people being put into the back of police cars have been members of the SNP.”
The senior Conservative MP’s comments prompted laughter in the Commons.
The exchange comes after the first migrants set to be sent on a one-way ticket to Rwanda were detained this week.
A video released by the Home Office yesterday showed individuals being escorted to waiting vehicles in handcuffs.
It comes amid the Government’s bid to get flights to send asylum seekers to the east African nation off the ground by July, after the Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Act became law last week.
