King Charles is set to break an Royal Family Easter tradition this year, as he undergoes treatment for his cancer, his former butler has claimed.
Grant Harrold, who worked for Charles between 2004 and 2011, reminisced about spending time with the royals during the Easter period and shared lots of details about what they get up to during the holidays.
He said the King and Queen Camilla would always make the trip up to Scotland for the occasion but this scenario may “not be realistic” this year, due to his ongoing cancer treatment.
Speaking on behalf of Spin Genie, Mr Harrold said: “From memory, you have the Maundy Thursday service where money gets passed around, which I believe the Queen is [undertaking] this year.
“Easter is interesting, from my experience, because the King used to go up to Scotland for his Easter break, and I used to go up with him.
“That’s quite a traditional thing, going up to Scotland. I don’t know if that’s realistic at the moment, because he may have to stay in London.”
“However, I think if they can, then they probably will have a break and go up to Scotland just to get away.”
The former royal butler also revealed that being with the royals over Easter was “a disaster” for his weight, due to the sheer amount of chocolate distributed out to staff by the Family.
He said: “My Easter was great with the family because I was given Easter eggs by the King and Queen, it was a disaster for my weight.
“The King and Queen, when they were the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, absolutely used to give me Easter gifts, Easter eggs.
“I remember one year the King actually wrote me a little letter and he thanked me for spending my Easter with them, it was my first Easter with them, and he put Cadbury’s Mini Eggs in the envelopes, so when I opened the envelope, all those sweets fell out. It was so sweet.”
