King Charles sent 'defiant' message as he makes first choice after cancer diagnosis

King Charles bravely chose “one particular car” to “send a message” to well-wishers in his first public outing following his cancer diagnosis, it has been claimed.

Sending a “defiant” message, the monarch made a short trip with Queen Camilla from Clarence House to Buckingham Palace, in a dark red State Bentley before taking a helicopter to Sandringham – his home in Norfolk.

The Mirror’s royal editor, Russell Myers said: “King Charles has a fleet of cars he could have used to travel from Clarence House to Buckingham Palace today, but he picked the highest profile of the lot.

“Instead of a 4×4 with blacked out windows, he made the journey in the State Bentley – a striking red classic that you can spot a mile off with huge windows allowing him to be seen from all angles.”

The royal editor believed the King wanted the public to see him as he bravely prepares for the challenges ahead, and it was the first picture taken since Charles’s cancer diagnosis was made public.

He added: “The choice of car may have been a random choice, but it feels like a message to those around the world who have come out to send messages of support and best wishes in the last 24 hours.

“He wanted to be seen – and to see those waiting to see him – as he bravely prepares for the difficult challenges ahead.”

The King was joined by his youngest son, Prince Harry, at Clarence House. Harry had rushed back to the UK for a short trip, after hearing about his dad’s health news.

As King Charles and Camilla stay at Sandringham, the wider Royal Family has tried to support the reigning monarch by conducting a series of royal engagements.

Princess Anne was in Nottingham, and for her visits, she wore a sentimental outfit, which fans gushed over.

Prince William has also stepped up to the mark by handing out gongs at Windsor Castle.

He later attended a charity gala dinner for London’s Air Ambulance charity, where he was supported by Hollywood icon, Tom Cruise.

The heir to the throne addressed the public and said: “We really appreciate everyone’s kind messages, thank you.”
