King Charles no longer has time for beloved hobby he has had for nearly 50 years

King Charles III reportedly has no time to tend to one much-beloved hobby that he has had for more than 50 years.

Since becoming monarch in 2022, the King is known to have stepped back from many things in his life.

His beloved hobbies have all had to take a back seat as he focusses on the most-important role, being King.

One thing that the 75-year-old no longer has time for is his love for painting.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, royal expert Robert Jobson said: “His first year as King has so far been characterised by a sense of urgency – he knows he has a limited time to achieve.

“I remember chatting to him at a dinner at Dumfries House, before he became king, and asking about his interest in watercolour painting.

“He replied that he doesn’t have time to paint anymore.”

The King has long described himself as an “enthusiastic amateur” painter, with his paintings once proudly put on display at Sandringham.

Last year, between April 1 and October 12, the King showcased his artistic skills in the ballroom at his Norfolk estate.

At the time, a spokesperson for the Sandringham estate said that the paintings show the monarch’s “creative interpretation of many British geographic landscapes and royal residences.”

The paintings set on display last year featured scenes that he had painted in the Highlands, Windsor Castle and Balmoral Castle.

The King has never chosen to sell his paintings, but they have made money for charitable foundations.

In 2016, it is believed that his paintings had made £6 million, but this would now have increased massively.

Speaking of his love of painting, King Charles previously said in the book, ‘HRH The Prince of Wales Watercolours’, that he took up painting as he “found photography less than satisfying”.

He said: “Quite, simply, I experienced an overwhelming urge to express what I saw through the medium of watercolour and to convey that almost ‘inner’ sense of texture which is impossible to achieve via photography…”
