Just Stop Oil duo smash famous painting in National Gallery and begin shouting at public

The Metropolitan Police have made two arrests after members of an eco-mob stormed a gallery and smashed protective glass sheilding a painting.

Just Stop Oil filmed two individuals as they walked into London’s National Gallery this morning, and cracked the glass which had been erected in front of the Rokeby Venus, in a replica move from 1914, when Mary Richardson performed a similar act.

Officers are thought to have entered the premises shortly afterwards.

A statement from the police on X, formerly Twitter, added: ” Two Just Stop Oil activists have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. The glass protecting a painting at the National Gallery has been vandalised.”

More Just Stop Oil protestors have also been marching at Whitehall, with more officers deployed to the scene.
