Joe Biden's own defence secretary admits to 'dangerous moment' after he authorises strikes

Joe Biden’s own defense secretary Lloyd Austin has admitted “this is a dangerous moment” after the president gave the go-ahead to launch strikes against Iranian targets in the Middle East.

The huge move comes after three US service members were killed in Jordan in a drone strike launched by an Iran-backed terror group.

Speaking at a news conference, Austin admitted “this is a dangerous moment in the Middle East” but the US “will take all necessary action”.

He warned Biden “will not tolerate” attacks on US troops and neither will he, adding: “In the aftermath of the Hamas attack on Israel terrorist groups backed by Iran and funded by Iran have tried to create even more turmoil, including the Houthis.”

Over 40 others were injured in the drone attack at Tower 22, a base on Jordan’s border with Syria and Iraq.

Austin went on to urge Iran to end its supply of weapons to the Houthi rebels.

He said: “The Houthis continue to do things that are very irresponsible and illegal.

“Our goal is to make sure we continue to take away their capabilities.”

He also warned the rebel group’s activities need “to come to a halt”.

The US has led strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen after the Tehran-linked group unleashed a campaign of attacks on international shipping vessels in the Red Sea.

The group said it was targeting any ships with perceived links to Israel, in solidarity with Hamas.

The IDF invaded Gaza vowing to crush Hamas in the wake of the terror group’s Oct 7 attack on southern Israel that saw some 1,200 killed and hundreds taken hostage.
