James Maddison needles Liverpool star on England duty as feud with Tottenham continues

Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Liverpool was fraught with controversy, and Jurgen Klopp went as far as to demand a replay after Luis Diaz’s goal was incorrectly ruled out for offside, with PGMOL apologising for the error.

Maddison refused to let the issue lie after joining up with Alexander-Arnold on England duty. Posting a picture to his Instagram story of the Liverpool star pointing in his direction, he wrote: “Still asking for a replay.”

Legal experts concluded that Liverpool could be entitled to another crack at Spurs under UEFA regulations, but senior figures from the Premier League are reportedly adamant that it will not happen.

Maddison ditched Leicester City for Spurs during the summer in the hope of fighting for more major honours, and he has hit the ground running with seven goal contributions in his first eight Premier League appearances.

In fact, the 26-year-old’s career in north London could hardly have started better, playing a key role under Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham head into the international break at the top of the table.

“I think we should just accept referees’ decisions but I know we are unlikely to go back to a world where we don’t have technology as part of that decision-making process. It was never going to resolve every issue and I don’t think there is any solution that will achieve that.”

England go into their forthcoming fixtures on a six-match unbeaten streak, having drawn with Ukraine and beaten Scotland during the most recent international break.
