It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas ad season

The battle of the best festive TV ads has begun. And this year the big stores are banking on some top names.

Graham Norton is the star of the Waitrose advert, called It’s Time For The Good Stuff and set to the Depeche Mode hit Just Can’t Get Enough.

It features a party plagued by Christmas nightmares – guests arriving early, people getting locked in the bathroom and a power cut – before the chat show king brings some much-needed festive cheer by rocking up with a luxury Golden Bûche de Noël chocolate Yule log.

The M&S ad, with the message “This Christmas do only what you love”, is crammed with celebs but, in the retailer’s best tradition, they’re not just any celebs.

Eurovision host and Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham, singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, fashion designer Tan France and actress Zawe Ashton are all seen ditching mundane festive tasks, like making decorations and festive food, and instead partying to Meatloaf’s hit, I Will Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That).

This week Asda’s 60-second teaser revealed Canadian singer Michael Bublé as the star of its Yuletide campaign.

But Argos is using its own home-grown celebs. Trevor the toy dinosaur and Connie, the doll, who already feature in its ads, make a festive movie on a mobile with Connie dancing on the table in a sparkly pink jumpsuit.
