Inside the Christmas celebrations of the royals who weren't invited to Sandringham

While the chosen ones of the Royal Family retreated to the humble Sandringham Estate for the poshest Christmas on Earth, many tend to ignore the countless royal members who don’t make the grade for a Norfolk festive period.

The Royal Family officially consists of eighteen living princes and princesses by birthright, and a further six individuals who are princesses by marriage. However, there are plenty more royals who are cousins of the various main players – and they’ve not exactly been suffering over the Christmas period, as Hello! reports.

Here, we take a look at the various lavish lifestyles these characters have been leading.

Princess Beatrice’s stepson, Wolfie – a sparkling Christmas

Seven-year-old Christopher Woolf spent the period safely wrapped up in his biological mother, Dara Huang’s, arms in the US. Huang is an architect and was previously married to Beatrice’s now-husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, with whom she had Christopher.

During his stint abroad, the youngster managed to squeeze in a trip to Disneyland. He alternates each year with his stepmother and mother – last year he was with the royals.

Lady Tatiana Mountbatten – a white Christmas

33-year-old Tatiana is a distant cousin of the late queen, and has likely had an exhausting festive season after giving birth to a baby in September. Her reward for her hard work was a stint in the mountains somewhere, with a gorgeous blanket of snow all around.

Zenouska Mowatt – a chocolatey Christmas

33-year-old Zenouska is the Queen’s cousin and great-great-granddaughter of King George V. While she is relatively unknown, she did make an appearance at the 2019 Trooping The Colour. Good friends with Princess Eugenie since they were very young, and the evidence suggests she ate well, as she posted a wonderful-looking chocolate digestive cake – Prince William’s favourite.

Lady Kitty, Amelia and Eliza Spencer – a tropical Christmas

Prince William’s cousins, Kitty, Amelia and Eliza Spencer were in South Africa for Christmas to celebreate Kitty’s 33rd birthday. A totally different experience to Sandringham, the three soaked up the rays and enjoyed a lovely banquet (or five).

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry – a Californian Christmas

The pair decided against a Sandringham Christmas this year, and instead flew to Costa Rica before quickly returning home on the 20th to Montecito. While they attempt to keep wraps on their life with their young children, they did confirm to E! News that they will be making “special memories” and creating new traditions.

Charles Spencer – a grey Christmas

The late Princess Diana’s brother spent the big day at Althorp, a Grade I-listed stately home in Northamptonshire. His humble retreat seemed to be dampened by the weather though, as he posted on Instagram: “That period between Christmas and New Year in England always seems to be miserably grey”.
