Express.co.uk takes an inside look into the award ceremony’s biggest moments from Cheryl getting pied in the face to Prince William’s surprise appearance.
Pride of Britain is an annual ceremony presented in partnership with The Daily Mirror and once again individuals will be honoured at London’s Grosvenor House.
Cheryl
The Girls Aloud singer attended the awards with her fellow bandmates back in 2010 and got more than she bargained for when she presented a brave schoolboy with the Child of Courage Award.
Cameron Small, who was 12 at the time, had been to hospital over 900 times in his short life after battling a rare blood disorder.
The young child was being honoured after he turned his battle to help other children who had illnesses and began fundraising to help others feel normal during their hospital stays.
To Cameron’s surprise, the chart-topper took to the stage and presented him with his award.
However, Carol Vorderman issued another surprise as the Countdown legend vowed to donate £1,000 to Cameron’s charity if he’d fling a custard pie in a celebrity’s face.
Cheryl stepped forward and volunteered to have her make-up ruined as the youngster gleefully shoved the cake right into her face.
Prince William
The Prince of Wales stunned audiences when he made a surprise appearance at the Pride of Britain Awards in 2017.
Moin Younis, won the nation’s hearts when he collected his Teenager of Courage award at the star studded ceremony.
The celebrant, who was aged 17 at the time, worked as an ambassador for the Acorns Children’s Hospice in Birmingham.
He lived with a painful condition called Epidermolysis bullosa – which caused his skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch.
While on stage, Moin was quizzed by host Carol about his love for the football team Aston Villa and he joked: “Is there a problem?”
Carol commented: “I don’t know if there are actually any other Aston Vila fans in the house tonight.”
Moin replied: “I think I know one”, and pointed at Prince William, who saluted him and smiled at the royal from the audience, while sporting a Villa scarf over his suit.
This year’s Pride of Britain Awards will be hosted by regular Carol and Ashley Banjo.
The Pride of Britain Awards will air on Thursday, 12 October at 8pm and will be available to watch on ITV1 and online via ITVX.
