Inside exclusive King Edward VII hospital with just 56 beds favoured by Royal Family


With King Charles and the Princess of Wales undergoing medical treatment, questions have been raised as to what health facilities the Royal Family opt to use – and it’s definitely no ordinary hospital.

The King Edward VII Hospital has been used numerous times by the Royal Family, with the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip opting for the Marylebone facility.

Sarah Ferguson, 63, underwent her breast cancer surgery at the private hospital in 2023 – and she was spotted outside the facility earlier today, marking the first time she has been pictured since her recent skin cancer diagnosis.

Outside the exclusive hospital, she bravely told royal fans “I’m fine, thank you” after being asked how she was doing. The hospital has been used plenty of times by the Royal Family, as well as other notable figures.

It has just 56 beds, spread out over five buildings. There is the Main Hospital, the Emmanual Kaye House, The Charterhouse, King Edward VII’s Hospital Medical Centre, and Conference Rooms & Offices on site.

Where is the hospital located?

Set in the picturesque area of Marylebone in central London, it’s a short walk from Baker Street Station and Regent’s Park Station. It’s also within the renowned Harley Street medical district.

From the moment you enter the hospital, there is a “luxurious and peaceful waiting area” for those having treatment.

What are the rooms like?

There are porters to take patients to and from their rooms, with their official website listing all the facilities inside.

  • A wall-mounted flat-screen television and radio
  • Wi-Fi internet access
  • A nurse call system
  • Safety non-slip floors
  • Wardrobe and storage space
  • Adjustable lighting
  • An electric bed with adjustable controls

When was it founded?

The hospital was founded in 1899, with the Duke of Kent acting as President. It is a private, charitable hospital with a history of Royal Patronage.
