Incredible Underground style map created for new London bus route

London’s bus routes have received a stylish Tube-style map based on Sadiq Khan’s “Superloop 2” concept.

The Mayor of London has promised to follow up on his already popular Superloop route, the orbital line he introduced in 2023.

The completed Superloop offers orbital and radial express routes connecting outer and inner London town centres.

There are 10 routes in total, each covering areas in the UK capital’s suburbs.

The new map shows the proposed areas where the loop’s sequel would be developed, including several all-new routes.

Mr Khan announced the Superloop 2 on April 19 and released the concept map as he proclaimed its base version “such a success so far”.

While the service has been used approximately 15 percent more than the wider London network, some Londoners have been left disappointed that it hasn’t extended to their neighbourhoods.

As the map shows, the Superloop 2 plans to meet some of the demands from left-out locals, with a second loop inside the original and several shorter branches that intersect the two.

The mayor has proposed five additional loop routes that, subject to consultation, will pave the way for travellers from Harrow to Ealing.

The new routes include:

  • Harrow to Barnet via Edgware
  • South Havering to Leytonstone via Romford
  • Hounslow to Hammersmith
  • Streatham to Eltham via Catford
  • Ealing to Kingston via Richmond

Mr Khan has said the TfL’s existing budgets would pay for the proposed routes and that the additional ridership would bring the government body additional revenues.

With the announcement, Mr Khan hailed the Superloop as one of his “proudest achievements as mayor” and “nothing short of a game changer”.

As the original route made journeys “quicker and more convenient”, he said, he hopes its extension would go even further, and he has asked TfL to look at how it could “serve key locations”.

He said: “The proposed new routes will all be subject to consultation with Londoners, but I’ve asked TfL to start looking at how they could best serve key locations – whether popular town centres, other transport hubs or public services like hospitals.”
