'I married the hero who saved my father': Woman marries hero paramedic that saved her dad

Samantha met ambulance worker Mike Horton at Worcestershire Royal Hospital back in 2011, where her dad Colin Billett had been taken by ambulance, following a heart attack while out walking his dogs.

Even though Colin’s heart had stopped and he was technically dead, Mike saved his life through CPR.

Mike went to the hospital and met daughter Sam at Colin’s bedside.

Sam, now, 38, of Kidderminster, said: “He asked for my number so he could check dad was ok afterwards, which I thought was really sweet.”

They met for a drink, became a couple and tied the knot in 2015.

After a year of trying to get pregnant, Mike, 47, who has a daughter from a previous relationship, and Sam were told by doctors they were experiencing “unexplained infertility”.

At the end of 2019 they decided to try IVF, but still to no avail.

But last summer Sam fell pregnant naturally. Son Kit was born on Easter Sunday this year, weighing a healthy 6Ib 8oz. Sam said: ‘It was the most amazing moment when I held him in my arms and I was finally a mum.

“No-one would ever believe that dad dying in the street would bring me love, a husband and a family of my own. I’m proof miracles happen.”

Now 70, Colin, a retired college lecturer, and his wife Karen, 68, are every inch the proud grandparents.

Colin said: “Sam and Mike brought us Kit, the most beautiful boy, the first boy in our family for 45 years.

“I shall be forever grateful for what Mike did on that day when he saved my life.”
