How Prince William and Kate will mark one year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's death

The Prince and Princess of Wales are set to pay a visit to Wales on September 8 to mark the first anniversary of the late Queen’s death.

The couple are to make an emotional pilgrimage to a cathedral in Wales to mark the sad anniversary.

They will lead tributes for the late Queen at St David’s Cathedral, a trip which will start their plans after their summer break.

Prince William will pay homage to his beloved grandmother, honouring her life and legacy, but will also make sure to strongly “look to the future”.

William is not expected to speak at the cathedral, but the couple wil together be shown around the ancient church in St David’s.

As expected, the day will be an emotional one for not only the couple, but the entire Royal Family.

A source said: “It will be an emotional day for all the Royal Family, as well as many people across Britain, recognising this date.

“But of course for others, it will be just another day and life goes on.”

It is believed that William and Kate chose Wales as the place to go on the poignant anniversary due to the late Queen’s connection with St David’s Cathedral.

Royal sources also suggested it could be because the couple had only visited there three times in the last year.

St David’s Cathedral also, unlike others, has the sovereign as a member of its Cathedral Chapter, or governing body.

One of the late Queen’s most memorable trips to St David’s Cathedral occurred in 1982.

Her visit there to distribute the Maundy Money, and the trip marked the first time that the monarch had travelled outside of England for the service.

Unlike William and Kate, the King and Queen Camilla will remain at Balmoral for the anniversary.

The King is said to want to spend the first anniversary privately, with no public events planned.

The late monarch’s death last September meant that Charles automatically became King.
