Horror in UK seaside town as 3 schoolboys arrested after 'woman raped in broad daylight'


Three schoolboys have been arrested after a woman was raped in broad daylight near a UK beauty spot.

The alleged attack happened near Tynemouth Priory, in the seaside town of Tynemouth, North Tyneside on Sunday afternoon and was reported soon after.

Detectives are questioning the three boys, aged 15, on suspicion of rape. The alleged victim is aged in her 30s.

A Northumbria Police spokesman told Chronicle Live: “Shortly after 3.50pm on Sunday we received a report of rape in the Tynemouth Priory and Castle area of Tynemouth. An investigation was immediately launched by police, and the female victim continues to be supported by specialist officers.

“Officers have arrested three males, all aged 15, on suspicion of rape. They have since been released on police bail pending further enquiries. Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact police.”

Now managed by English Heritage, Tynemouth Castle and Priory was once one of the largest fortified areas in England. The ruins overlook the North Sea and the River Tyne. The site, close to the centre of Tynemouth village is now a popular visitor attraction.

Witnesses are asked to call Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference number NP-20240225-0648.
