While Mercedes were the best of the rest behind Red Bull this season, the Silver Arrows failed to win a race and have now only won once in their last 44 races – with their last coming at the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos in 2022.
However, Russell gave a positive outlook on Mercedes’ chances of closing the gap to Red Bull next year, insisting the team are aware of how to fix the issues they have had with the W14.
“I think the positive is we’re not scratching our heads [wondering] why we’re so far behind Red Bull,” he said.
“We see so many flaws with this car, which gives every single person back at the factory so much motivation to chase after those problems and find those solutions which we think will make a good step into next year.”
