Former Met officer guilty of multiple rapes including three against children

A former Metropolitan Police officer has been found guilty of multiple counts of rape, including three of children under 13.

Cliff Mitchell, 24, was convicted at Croydon Crown Court of 10 counts of rape, three counts of raping a child under 13, one count of kidnap and breaching a non-molestation order, said the Met.

He approached one of his victims with a knife in September 2023 and told her to put her arms behind her back, before tying her up with cable ties and putting tape over her mouth.

One of Mitchell’s victims revealed that he forced her and another person into his car. She managed to escape by pretending she felt sick.

She was later seen running through traffic before a passer-by noticed what was happening and helped her.

In a 999 call played in court, the terrified woman told the operator “he’s kidnapped me” and “he’s behind us” as she travelled in the car of the good Samaritan.
