Footage released of horrifying moment Sgt Matt Ratana is shot by suspect in custody


A murder trial saw the chilling moment a gunman shot dead Met Police Sergeant Matt Ratana in a custody block cell with an antique revolver he had hidden in a holster under his armpit in a video clip that has now been released.

Louis De Zoysa, 25, is accused of murdering Sgt Ratana, 54, at a custody block in Croydon, south London, on September 25 2020, while handcuffed.

The prosecution alleges De Zoysa “pulled the trigger on purpose four times” while he was handcuffed.

The first and second shots hitting Sgt Ratana, the third hitting the wall during a struggle with officers and a fourth hitting De Zoysa himself, it is claimed.

De Zoysa, of Banstead, Surrey, denies murder.
