FIFA has announced the World Cup 2026 final will be held in New Jersey.
The MetLife Stadium – home of the New York Giants and New York Jets NFL teams – will host final on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
The world governing body of football says the competition will be the “biggest-ever” World Cup.
The 104-game tournament will feature 48 teams across 16 host cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the MetLife Stadium was built in 2010 and boasts a capacity of 82,500 people.
FIFA also confirmed the tournament will begin on June 11 at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico.
The Azteca is well-known among football fans as it was the venue where Argentina striker Diego Maradona score the “Hand of God” goal against England in the 1986 quarter-final.
Canada meanwhile will open their tournament on June 12 in Toronto as they host the iconic cup for the first time. The USA will kick-off on the same day at So-Fi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas – home of the Dallas Cowboys – will be one of the semi-final venues, along with the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, home to the city’s Major League Soccer club as well as the Falcons NFL franchise.
The third-place play-off will be hosted at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.
The Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, the NRG Stadium in Houston, Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia and Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California are other US venues.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: “The most inclusive and impactful World Cup ever is no longer a dream, but a reality that will take shape in the form of 104 matches in 16 state-of-the-art stadiums across Canada, Mexico and the USA.
“From the opening match at the iconic Estadio Azteca to the spectacular final in New York New Jersey, players and fans have been at the core of our extensive planning for this game-changing tournament.”
