Father and son dentist duo mutilated 400 patients during reign of terror

A father and son dentist duo who mutilated 400 patients during a reign of terror have been jailed in France.

Lionel Guedj, 43, and his father Carnot Guedj, 71, who were sentenced by the Court of Appeal in Aix-en-Provence, Marseilles, have recently had their sentences upheld.

Lionel was sentenced to eight years in prison while his father was sentenced to just five years in prison.

They were accused of mutilating around 400 patients from the city’s working-class neighbourhoods between 2006 and 2012.

Le Figaro reported that the pair were also accused of committing fraud of up to 1.7million euros (£1.4million).

Lionel Guedj was originally sentenced for mutilating around 300 people in September 2022.

The court heard how he had reportedly promised people a “star smile” but multiple patients were given unnecessary dental operations.

Speaking to local media one of the victims, Samir, 33, described how Lionel Guedj convinced him he needed to have several operations.

He said that he was suffering from a cavity but was told his teeth were “at the end of their life”.

Afterwards, he agreed to have his teeth filed down; they were reportedly later replaced with “poor quality” bridges. He said that his mouth was “constantly swollen” and that it was “carnage”.

Zin, 20, was another victim of Mr Guedj. During a routine check up he was told that he had the worst teeth in the world and so allegedly told him to do what was necessary.

It was reported that every time he returned he was in intense pain only for his condition to worsen. He said: “He told me the problem was on the next tooth. Today, I only eat on the right side.”

Furthermore, because of Mr Guedj’s work, Zin had to give up on going on external missions. He described the father and son pair as the “infernal duo”.

While Zin’s ordeal was traumatic, other victims were left able only to eat through a straw because of their handiwork.

After building up a substantial sum, Lionel Guedj reportedly spent the money on luxury cars and a yacht.

Both Lionel Guedj and his father have been disbarred from the order of dental surgeons.
