Erling Haaland speaks out after being accused of erupting at Man City boss Pep Guardiola

Manchester City’s star striker, Erling Haaland, has revealed his ‘anger’ at manager Pep Guardiola following a substitution was not what it seemed. The Norwegian scored four goals in an astounding performance against Wolves last Saturday (May 4) in which Manchester City triumphed with a 5-1 victory when he was subbed off after 82 minutes.

The incident ignited speculations regarding the brilliant striker’s displeasure at not being given the opportunity to add more goals to his tally that day. However, Haaland put these speculations to rest during an appearance on the Men In Blazers podcast.

The star forward clarified that the issue causing his frustration was completely unrelated to being substituted for Julian Alvarez, who also proved his mettle by scoring just three minutes after taking the field. He said: “I was mad because [of] something completely different, it was nothing about that.”

Demonstrating his team spirit, he added: “I was super happy that Julian [Alvarez] came on and scored as well, of course I would love to score more goals but I wasn’t mad or anything about getting subbed off, I’m happy for the guy that got substituted on for me and that’s how it is.”

Pep Guardiola’s second season at Manchester City could bring more dominance, with a Premier League and FA Cup double on the cards this time around. Team-mate Jack Grealish spoke on the immense team chemistry: “I’ve said in a lot of interviews that, for me, the team I’m in now – and especially last year – it’s just unbelievable, the togetherness we have.”

This togetherness sets City apart and fuels their reign under Guardiola, according to Grealish. “I’ve said in a lot of interviews that, for me, the team I’m in now – and especially last year – it’s just unbelievable, the togetherness we have,” the England international said.

“Over the years, there have been so many top teams in the Premier League that haven’t done what we’ve done. That’s something we had so much of and we’ve got it this season as well. With the experience we have and the quality we have, we don’t really doubt ourselves.”
